The severity of psoriasis can vary from person to person, affecting both men and women. It is caused by an accelerated skin cell production cycle—typically, skin cells regenerate every 3 to 4 weeks, but in individuals with psoriasis, the cycle is shortened to just 3 to 7 days. This rapid turnover leads to a buildup of skin cells on the surface.
