Melasma is a common skin condition that causes dark patches, usually on the face. It’s often linked to sun exposure and hormones.

Melasma is a type of hyperpigmentation caused by an overproduction of melanocytes, often triggered by hormonal changes. It’s commonly referred to as the “pregnancy mask” because it can affect up to 50% of women during pregnancy.

Affects of Melasma

Several factors can contribute to the development of melasma, including pregnancy, hormonal medications such as contraceptives, hormone replacement therapy, certain medical conditions, and other medications.

Exposure to UV light, heat, or trauma to the skin can also trigger melasma or make existing pigmentation worse. Symptoms often become more noticeable during the summer months and may fade slightly in winter.

I had pretty much accepted that this was just a part of getting older and persuing a hobby that meant being outside in all weathers.
The consultation process was thorough and the pricing was reasonable.
The procedure was not painful - I only experienced just the very slightest of twinges. The side effects were minimal.
