FAQs

What causes superficial acne scarring?

Superficial acne scarring, also known as atrophic scarring, occurs when collagen is lost during the healing process after acne lesions. These scars form as a result of inflammation and damage to the dermal layer of the skin.

What is PIH?

Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) is the darkening of the skin that can occur after skin injury or inflammation. PIH is more common in darker and mixed skin types.

What is PIE?

Post-inflammatory erythema (PIE) is the persistent redness and blemishing that can occur after skin injury or inflammation. PIE is most common in fairer skin types.

Is there downtime?

Mild to moderate downtime may also occur with microneedling treatments depending on the depth of the needle on the skin during treatment. For more information about expected downtime, please contact us.

Why are multiple sessions recommended?

Multiple sessions are typically required to achieve optimal collagen restoration and skin remodelling.

Can I have these treatments if I have active acne

No, it is advised to address active acne before undergoing  microneedling treatments. Treating active acne first helps avoid the spread of bacteria, reduces inflammation, and prevents further scarring.

We would recommend our Acne laser facial or Blemiderm program to address active acne.
