What Is Lip Filler? (In Simple Terms)

Lip filler is a soft hyaluronic acid (HA) gel that is carefully injected into the lips to:

Add subtle volume
Improve shape and definition
Enhance hydration and smoothness

Hyaluronic acid is a substance naturally found in the skin that attracts water. In filler form, it acts like a hydrating cushion, giving the lips soft structure and a healthier, more youthful appearance.

Results from lip enhancement fillers are visible immediately, though the final outcome is best judged after 2 weeks, once the anticipated swelling has settled and the filler has integrated with the surrounding tissue.

Is lip filler painful?

Most clients find it very manageable. We use numbing cream and HA fillers that contain local anaesthetic to maximise comfort.

How soon will I see the results?

Results are visible immediately, but there may be swelling. Your lips will settle over 1–2 weeks into their final shape.

What side effects should I expect?

Temporary swelling, tenderness, and bruising are common and typically settle within 3–7 days.

Can lip filler be dissolved if I don’t like it?

Yes. HA lip fillers can be dissolved with an enzyme called hyaluronidase, if needed

Can I combine lip filler with other treatments?

Absolutely. Lip enhancement is often combined with anti-wrinkle injections around the mouth or skin boosters to further improve the perioral (mouth) area. As well as our microneedling and laser facials to improve skin texture and tone.

Do I need a consultation before lip Enhancement fillers ?

Yes. A consultation with our aesthetic medical practitioner is essential to assess suitability, review your medical history, and discuss your goals. This ensures a safe, bespoke, and ethically planned treatment.

What should I do before my Lip enhancement filler treatment?

To minimise bruising and swelling:

Avoid alcohol, ibuprofen, aspirin, fish oils, vitamin E, and St John’s Wort for 5–7 days prior (unless prescribed by a doctor).
Avoid dental work 2 weeks before treatment where possible.
Do not attend with an active infection, cold sore, or skin flare in the treatment area.
This treatment is not suitable during pregnancy or breastfeeding.

What should I expect after treatment? (Aftercare)

Mild swelling, tenderness, or bruising is common and usually settles within 2–7 days.
Avoid heavy exercise, saunas, and extreme heat for 24–48 hours.
Avoid applying pressure, sleeping face down, or having facial massages on the treated area for at least 1–2 weeks (unless specifically advised).
Do not have facial treatments or dental work for 2 weeks after dermal filler.
Contact the clinic immediately if you experience severe pain, mottled skin, or unusual changes—early assessment is essential.
