Understanding Dermal Fillers (In Simple Terms)

What are Dermal fillers?
Dermal fillers are a soft gels made from crosslinked hyaluronic acid. The dermal filler is injected into the face to restore lost volume, smooth lines, and enhance facial contours. Most dermal fillers are made from hyaluronic acid (HA)—a substance naturally found in your skin that holds water and retains skin moisture to keep the skin plump and hydrated.

What is Dermal filler used for?

Dermal filler is used restore facial volume, smooth facial lines and enhance facial contours. As we age, we lose collagen, fat, and bone structure, which can lead to hollowing, sagging, and deeper lines in the face. Dermal fillers temporarily replenish and rebalance lost volume. At MAESKN, we pride ourselves on subtle and elegant results that restore structure and enhance facial contours.

What is hyaluronic acid? (HA)
Hyaluronic acid is a sugar molecule that draws and holds water in the skin. Hyaluronic acid can hold up to 100x it’s water weight. When injected into the skin it attracts water from the surrounding tissues. Hyaluronic acid in it’s  dermal filler form, acts like a hydrating cushion, adding bounce, plumpness and moisture back to the skin, to overall restore the harmony of the face. Hyaluronic acid fillers are also reversible, which adds an extra layer of safety and reassurance.

Results from dermal fillers are visible immediately, although the final outcome is best judged after 2 weeks, once any anticipated swelling has settled and the filler has integrated with the surrounding tissue.

FAQs

Do I need a consultation before dermal fillers?

Yes. A consultation with our aesthetic medical practitioner is essential to assess suitability, review your medical history, and discuss your goals. This ensures a safe, bespoke, and ethically planned treatment.

Consultation price can be redeemed against treatment.

Are dermal fillers reversible?

Yes—hyaluronic acid fillers can be dissolved with an enzyme called hyaluronidase if necessary. This offers additional reassurance and flexibility.

Are dermal fillers painful?

Most clients find treatment very tolerable. We use high-quality fillers that contain local anaesthetic, and a topical numbing cream or dental block can be used for extra comfort if required.

Will I look overfilled or ‘done’?

No. The MAESKN aesthetic is refined, subtle, and balanced. Our focus is on restoration and soft enhancement—never distortion.

How long do dermal fillers last?

This depends on the area treated and the type of filler used, but typically 6–18 months. Areas like lips may need more frequent maintenance, while cheeks and jawline can last longer.

When will I see results?

Results are visible immediately, although mild swelling or bruising may temporarily affect the appearance. The final, settled result is usually seen at 2 weeks.
